What are positive thoughts to believe you can lose weight?
We all have the best of intentions, don’t we? If you are anything like I was for years, you start noticing a tightness of your jeans on Friday. You say to yourself, ” I really need to get this weight off. I need to prioritize myself. I need to make my health a priority.” You may even take a walk after work or skip that afternoon cookie.
And then you remember that your family ALWAYS has pizza on Friday night. So, you have to eat the pizza. After that, you figure you might as well have a cookie because you already ate the pizza. Why not start this whole thing on Monday? That sounds like a better day anyway. And you carb-load in preparation all weekend.
Have you been there with me? I’m guessing you have.
Why Not Wait Until Monday for Weight Loss?
Aside from the obvious growing waistline that occurs over the weekend, the biggest problem with a “wait until Monday” approach to weight loss is what it does in your brain. Our thoughts determine our results. And when we repeatedly let our brains over-ride attempts to change habits, we quit actually believing we can do it. If we don’t truly believe we will lose the weight, how will be ever succeed?
Let’s Take a Look at Your Weight Loss Beliefs
Beliefs are actually just recurrent thoughts that we begin to accept as facts. A belief is defined as an acceptance that a statement is true. And, with your weight, those beliefs may be deeply ingrained. They may even go back to your childhood.
I’ll never forget a friend’s Dad jokingly calling me “Emily the elephant” or my Dad saying he was “saving me from myself” when I ate too much. These simple frivolous statements can become the core of our beliefs about our bodies. And we carry them forward with us.
In order to create positive thoughts, you first have to recognize where your thoughts are right now. Ask yourself:
- What do I believe about my body?
- What do I believe about my weight right now?
- Do I believe I can change my body if I desire to?
- Am I using negative thoughts to justify my body being where it is right now?
- What thoughts would stand in the way of changing my body?
What Do you Want to Believe about Your Weight?
That was probably a bit of a downer. Here is the coolest part – you can actually change those thoughts and create a completely different result in your life. And changing those thoughts is easier than you think.
Take that list of negative thoughts and start by simply rewriting them. Make them positive. Period. Create a list of positivity about your body and your weight. Let me give you a few examples:
- Negative: I will always be fat.
- Positive: I will always be beautiful.
- Negative: I can’t lose weight.
- Positive: I can lose weight and I will do whatever it takes to get there.
- Negative: My fibromyalgia will make it impossible for me to lose weight.
- Positive: I can lose weight with fibromyalgia. People do it all of the time and so can I.
Once you have rewritten all of those negative thoughts, I want you to stop and look at the two lists for a moment.
You may be thinking the negative seem more real. Question that thought. Why would one be more true than the other? Are you truly destined for weight struggles without the possibility of change? Of course not. Why wouldn’t you chose to feed your mind these positive thoughts all day long instead of the negative? You alone have the choice.
Positive Thoughts to Believe You Can Lose Weight
And that is exactly where your beliefs about your body and weight loss will start. As you recall, beliefs are just recurrent thoughts that we accept as facts. You can change your beliefs by simply changing those recurrent thoughts.
Post those positive thoughts in the bathroom mirror. Write them in your phone. Say them to yourself whenever you start questioning or your brain starts wandering back to the negative. Make them visible and believable. And recurrent. When your beliefs in yourself and your ability to create exactly the body you want begin to change, your weight will follow. You will believe it and be willing to do whatever it takes to create it. And, you will create it. I truly believe that. Believe in yourself.
Simple Solutions: Why not believe that your body is beautiful and capable? Changing your beliefs is as easy as changing your thoughts. Practice it for different results.
